Agenda 2030 goals

SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION

Quality, innovation, and the high value of human capital have always been the guiding principles for Crippa in its development and offer of cutting edge solutions and services designed to meet the market’s quickly changing requirements.

Crippa is demonstrating its commitment by taking up a path that will integrate the 17 UN sustainable development goals in all its activities and processes. This commitment takes shape and is reported in its publication of the Sustainability Report in compliance with the Global Reporting Initiative Standards, international reference criteria for sustainability performance reporting.

Year after year, this document will tell about Crippa’s path to sustainability, describing the commitments undertaken and the goals that have been reached. It will also identify what still needs to be improved.

SUSTAINABILITY:

A COMMITMENT THROUGH TIME

Crippa has always integrated sustainability in its business strategy in order to create shared value. This is because Crippa has always been firmly convinced that it can obtain significant long-lasting results over the medium and long term only by working sustainably and knowledgeably. Moreover, transparency is the main inspiration leading all of its activities and every interaction. Even before turning in its sustainability report, Crippa had always adopted best practices that embrace these inspiring principles in every aspect of its business, starting with a commitment to recognize human capital, the supply chain, order management, customer relations, and finally with the innovative solutions it offers.

1. Product quality and innovation

Quality and innovation are integral parts of Crippa’s DNA and have always been the guidelines for its corporate strategy. It was one of the first to introduce CNC machinery and to offer a range of complete machines with “Full Electric” technology. Its designers continue to look for the best technology available to guarantee lower wear and tear on the components, easy availability, and energy savings. The R&D department also dedicates particular attention to the ergonomics of the machines to facilitate the operators’ work.

Product quality and innovation also have to pass the test of the highest customer satisfaction. This is a primary goal for Crippa, which has developed and continues to implement tools to monitor machine performance of machines, I4.0 solutions and user-friendly software, and ensures the highest level of after-sales service and technical assistance, both on-site and remotely, guaranteeing problem-solving in the least time possible without wasting resources.

The attention paid to quality, ISO 9001:2015-certified, also passes through a series of checks aimed at minimizing and managing nonconformities and optimizing processes, also utilizing a supplier quality plan that regulates the operating methods and information pertaining to the supply chain.

Crippa also pays attention non-stop to identifying and removing inefficiencies from all production phases.

2. Attention to people

Crippa has always promoted safety, respect for people, and the professional growth of its workers. These values are defined in the Code of Ethics and put into practice every day following a number of rules aimed at improving the work environment and at recognizing the value of professional skills, safety, the local area, and the relationships between the company, its workers, and its external contacts.

In this perspective, Crippa implements risk management analyses, integrated company policy, and the adoption of the organizational model defined by Italian Legislative Decree no. 231 of June 8, 2001, by appointing a specific supervisory and control body that guarantees the health and well-being of all company collaborators, as well as what is provided for in the legislation.

Focus on the customer breaks down into a set of actions including the protection of privacy and supply terms and conditions, operator training, and the study of machine design, which in addition to guaranteeing the highest safety standards, also ensures that the machinery is designed and built to comply with ergonomics guidelines and therefore guarantee maximum comfort for the end user.

Crippa’s people-centered approach also takes shape through continuous training and a range of benefits that allow its employees to gain access to integrated health services, special company agreements with providers, a company life insurance policy, and flexible working hours to achieve a better work-life balance. These conditions allow each worker to work in a serene and proactive environment that protects and promotes their comprehensive personal growth.

3. Responsibility of the supply chain

To protect the quality of its products, Crippa has always worked towards building lasting relationships with its suppliers and looking for excellent local companies, both to optimize geographic proximity and to give visibility to top local players. Crippa is aware of the importance of the supply chain, so it promotes activities to involve business counterparts to periodically verify quality requirements, compliance with standards, economic solidity and prices. These requirements are applied to suppliers and sub-suppliers.

4. Environmental protection

Crippa protects the environment by monitoring the entire lifecycle of its products and processes. It develops and creates solutions with low environmental impact, and its machines maintain the same levels of efficiency and reliability.

This commitment manifests itself in all production phases, from machine development and operations to monitoring activities (such as testing) and painting, which minimizes emissions of pollutants and CO2, and reduces water consumption.

Almost all of Crippa’s machines have “Full Electric” technology to guarantee its commitment to minimal environmental impact. Crippa guarantees that its customers can use renewable sources of electricity to power these machines.

Crippa’s dedication to the environment also includes reusing materials for packaging, working to find recyclable or reusable materials, and where possible, minimizing the quantity of materials used for packaging.

5. Business integrity

Since it was founded, Crippa has always conducted business in full compliance with applicable regulations, operating according to its values of diligence, fairness, loyalty and transparency. Monitoring tools such as its Code of Ethics and Supervisory Body formalize its commitment and allows it to put in place the activities necessary to prevent unethical behavior in the workplace and in relations with third parties.

Crippa encourages the conscious use of food resources and protects health, withdrawing the provision of sugary drinks and industrial snacks from company distributors, and promoting the consumption of balanced meals by means of agreements with local restaurants to provide a canteen service for our employees.

Crippa promotes the health and well-being of its employees, fulfilling its legal obligations and indeed exceeding them. All employees benefit from a supplementary health and welfare policy, aimed at preventing illness and providing financial support for any medical expenses. Crippa has also taken out an EXTRA PROFESSIONAL ACCIDENT and LONG TERM CARE policy for all employees. In addition, there are defibrillator units at each of our sites, which can be used as necessary by members of staff with first aid training.

Crippa invests in its human capital, offering customised and well-structured training plans, and using a management system to monitor the number of training hours completed. In this way, it can ensure the continuous development of its workforce, enhance the company's expertise and become an attractive choice for new talents. Crippa collaborates with the major universities, participating in research programmes, theses and shared design projects, especially with the Department of Mechanics. Crippa is a sponsor of Dynamic PRC and of the circular economy project: "one thing leads to another", both by the Politecnico di Milano. Our after-sales service also focuses on training, and Crippa offers various options for learning about its products and services. These range from post-installation courses to special training sessions, covering such topics as: routine and scheduled maintenance, optimising production, software, and tube bending theory. These courses can be used in dual mode with simultaneous translation (in person or on a special platform), but always ensuring the opportunity to interact with lecturers.

Crippa has implemented a standardised recruitment process, aimed at recognising the good qualities and personal skills of every worker, and ensuring an inclusive working environment.

There are drinking water dispensers at each of Crippa’s sites for the use of all company staff.  This significantly reduces the use of disposable plastic bottles.

Crippa was one of the first companies to offer a range of "Full Electric" machines, minimising energy consumption, and eliminating the use of oil and polluting waste material.

The energy that powers all our sites comes entirely from renewable sources. Our energy supplier and partner is Dolomiti Energia, which provides sustainably produced electricity to power Crippa's business.

All our production sites are well insulated. They have been designed to maximise energy saving, through improvements to the cooling and heating systems in the inside space, and work to reduce the impact of heat from sunshine, and therefore lower power consumption by air conditioners.

A comfortable, welcoming environment is required to allow people to work to the best of their ability. For this reason, Crippa is focused on safeguarding and constantly improving the workplace, and making sure that it is clean and tidy.

Our workshop shows how we pay special attention to order and cleanliness; we aim to keep the working areas in perfect order, so as to ensure safety and provide a comfortable working environment for both workers and customers.

All our employees are provided with ergonomic workstations for carrying out their tasks, and they can also take advantage of flexible working hours.

Crippa has introduced various solutions in line with Industry 4.0, which make it possible to monitor machinery, and to plan scheduled or emergency maintenance work through an app that can be accessed from any device.

The Next2You app allows our technical staff to detect problems in our customers' systems, by use of the latest remote diagnostic technology and augmented reality.

Crippa has a team of technicians who have worked on the development and implementation of all the software solutions for our machines, issuing updates and customising the systems in response to input from the market and the requirements of our customers.

Crippa’s USER ISO INTERFACE UII software allows operators to create machine programs easily and intuitively, to automatically generate ISO codes to optimise parts and equipment.

Our software assistance team is always at the customer’s service and ready to take action immediately to solve problems, also through telephone assistance.

Crippa also designs and manufactures automated and integrated systems, designed to improve the quality of work for the machine operators by eliminating repetitive and exhausting tasks where human operations can be replaced by new technologies.

Crippa has developed an app that can be downloaded from the App Store and which is specially designed for trade fairs. It guides visitors to the Crippa stand and gives an initial description of the machinery. The app can identify the machine that you have in front of you, and provide technical data in real time. The app also allows us to save money on printing catalogues, and adds to the digital tools that Crippa now offers.

Crippa advocates meritocracy, without discrimination of any kind; pathways to professional development are provided and supported.

Crippa has a system for monitoring and evaluating performance through a process of self-assessment, which also involves shared discussions with heads of department and the HR Manager. This system ensures that employees have a vision for the future, which includes defining clear objectives, identifying areas for improvement, and using the right tools. The process also allows us to address the needs of every employee, examining their potential in terms of professional growth, training requirements and the achievement of objective

Crippa plays an active role in the growth of the local community through many shared activities and exchanges with educational institutions, excellent local producers, and technological partners, thus promoting in general the development of communities close to the immediate locality.
We take part in school-work programmes, with a focus on the comprehensive schools and universities in the local area, identifying talented young people who could work and develop in the company.
We prefer to find suppliers in the local area, especially those that provide services requiring particular expertise, so that we can interact with them easily on an ongoing basis.
Crippa contributes to the growth of the local economy, choosing local farms and high quality producers in the Como area to reflect its corporate image.

Crippa is also involved in areas with no relation to its actual business. In the field of sports, Crippa has chosen to sponsor the young Italian motorcyclist Stefano Nepa, supporting him from his beginnings until his ascendancy to the Moto3 circuit.

Crippa promotes art and culture. Indeed, it supports the local Cantù Theatre in its training and acting work, and in planning the theatre season.

Finally, Crippa promotes various fringe activities through its partnership with the Republic of Design and, in particular, through the "15 variations of kindness" project. For this, a series of seats were created, consisting entirely of tubes that were bent with Crippa tube bending machines at the testing and prototyping stage. This was a real way to enhance the suburbs of Milan Bovisa and Dergano and an example of the circular economy, giving new life to old tubes: transforming them from waste material into an asset for the community. The project was nominated as a finalist for the 2021 Ro Plastic Prize.

Crippa is careful about its production and the life cycle of its products, minimising waste and inefficiency both with regard to commercial components and those that are specially designed. That is why we have adopted a Lean Production model, which aims to industrialise and standardise production, in order to limit the movement of goods and the quantity in storage. All our production flow is managed through digitised procedures.
The IT department also implements firewalls and software solutions, to ensure that any sensitive data are protected and safeguarded.
The HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) for our website protects the integrity and confidentiality of the data exchanged between visitors and the site itself, ensuring that users can browse in a confidential, secure way.
The site is also updated to comply with new legislation on the use of cookies.
This allows users to choose the categories of cookies they wish to accept, while saving the browsing preferences of each individual user for six months.
All our marketing activities comply with the regulations, and we are very careful to respect the privacy of actual, potential and prospective customers, regularly checking that our registration and unsubscription lists are properly updated and taking care about the profiling of personal data.

Crippa invests more than 5% of its turnover in research and development. We are constantly looking for new, sustainable technologies that we can use in production. We were pioneers in combining Full Electric technology with tube bending, and the first to use components in our machines that enable energy recovery from moving parts.

Crippa prefers to use high quality commercial components in all its machines, a choice that results in high performance with less wear on components and the easy availability of spare parts.
Crippa maximises efficiency throughout the life cycle of the product, limiting the movement of goods and so reducing the environmental impact. To help limit CO2 emissions, Crippa has equipped its company fleet with electric or hybrid cars, thereby reducing fossil fuel consumption and the production of non-recyclable waste.

All the products used during the company's operations have a low environmental impact. For example, the painting department only uses water-based paints.
When designing new machinery, Crippa is careful to seek out and exploit solutions that lead to positive energy savings.

Crippa has been selected as a technology partner by companies that produce goods with a very low environmental impact, including solar heating systems, electric vehicles, or heat pump boilers. Our company is chosen not just for its technical expertise, but also because we ensure a sustainable production chain.
Crippa also focuses on educating all its employees about sustainability issues, by means of regular newsletters, booklets and themed days.

Crippa also supports the CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) in its activities to observe and fight the phenomenon of glacier melting, contributing to the realisation of dissemination and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at the population.

Through its registration with the Como Chamber of Commerce and the Lecco API, Crippa subscribes to the RESILARIO project, formalised on 19 June 2018 on the occasion of the "General States of the Lake" and signed by the Lombardy Region, the Province of Como, the Province of Lecco, the Province of Varese, the Chamber of Commerce and the trade associations.
The project aims to protect Lake Como and its associated biodiversity through the efforts of all parties involved in the pact; to pursue the objectives of the project and to create the strategies required for its implementation.

Crippa is very careful about any waste resulting from any activity carried out in its production sites or offices. It has equipped its inside space with a device for crushing plastic, thus reducing the volume of any plastic waste.

All our production sites dispose of waste in accordance with current regulations, and wherever possible plans are being put in place to improve the separate collection and disposal of waste.

During the year, Crippa has provided various communications for all employees, aimed at educating and raising awareness about matters of separate collection, recycling and circular consumption.

Crippa SpA has set up a company apiary at one of its production sites, to actively engage customers and employees in the protection of biodiversity. The company's beekeeping project contributes to the pollination of fruits and vegetables and the cultivation of healthy, nutritious products, and helps preserve the biodiversity of our planet. As well as protecting the environment, we at Crippa contribute to creating socially shared values, involving our employees in workshops where they are shown beehive maintenance, activities to care for honey bees, and honey extraction, from which we obtain different types of honey

Crippa supports medical research and patients with rare diseases, using the fund generally spent on buying Christmas gifts for customers and suppliers and donating it to the Telethon Foundation and the APACS Churg Strauss Syndrome Patients' Association – EGPA.

Crippa is starting the assessment process to become an ISO:14001 certified company; this will enable constant, systematic monitoring of its environmental impact, and guarantee the business an internationally certified standard.
